British workers could be facing redundancy as General Motors prepares to declare itself bankrupt.
The US carmaker is set to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, with President Obama preparing to announce arrangements under which a new, smaller company will be formed. Such a move could have significant repercussions for subsidiary firms around the world, including Vauxhall, which employs thousands of British workers in Luton and Ellesmere port.
Any workers made redundant would join a long line of those who have lost their jobs this way during the recession, some of whom could have legal claims due to their employers not following the right procedures.
Those feeling this might apply to them may wish to see a solicitor about the subject.
Recent months have seen a rise in employment-related legal issues, insurer LV= has said.
Research by the company found that redundancy has contributed to the rise in such queries by over a third on 2008 figures.
