14/07/2009 Whistleblower appeal considered after legal decision |
|
The GMB Union is considering an appeal in the instance of a Marks & Spencer whistleblower who lost an unfair dismissal case after being sacked for leaking details of planned redundancy package cuts.
Customer loyalty manager Tony Goode lost his job for revealing the contents of an internal email to the press but went to an employment tribunal in London on right to free speech grounds.
However, the panel ruled that the employer had been reasonable in deciding to terminate his employment, a decision the union is considering an appeal against.
Those working in the capital planning to go to a tribunal may wish to seek the help of employment lawyers in London.
Another case in progress in London is that of Romanian accountant Mihaela Popa, who has brought a claim against PricewaterhouseCoopers alleging she had suffered racial discrimination in her time at the firm, preventing her from becoming a partner.
