20/11/2009 Workplace harassment guidance issued |
|
A new guide to dealing with workplace harassment has been produced by the government.
The document, which has been published with contributions from unions and employers, comes after a Europe-wide agreement on tackling the issue.
It is aimed at making workplaces safer and more pleasant to be in, noted employment relations minister Lord Young.
"By making sure that employers understand their obligations and workers understand their rights we can promote a better workplace culture," he said.
Those who are suffering from harassment and are not being helped sufficiently by their employers may wish to speak to employment lawyers in London about what action they could take.
Trade union Unison recently held a Bullying at Work Day to highlight the problem in workplaces.
Research by the body found that one in three employees have suffered from this in the past six months.
Among the pledges made by general secretary of Unite Dave Prentis was a promise to back workers in employment tribunals.
