A woman took drastic action to prevent her husband making any money from the sale of their home as part of their divorce settlement by burning the home down, a court has heard. Leicester crown court was told that Deborah Jackson from Oakham set fire to the house she shared in the Rutland village with her husband to ensure he made no money from the split, which was caused by him having an affair. Ms Jackson admitted: "It's all because of my husband and what he's done to me. I didn't want him to get a penny." As a result, both ended up penniless and Mr Jackson missed out on the £35,000 he would have got from the sale, while Mrs Jackson received a suspended prison sentence. Those who wish to see a solicitor to arrange a pre-nuptial agreement can cover various eventualities that could cause their marriage to end, something that might have enabled Mrs Jackson to keep the house. It is also possible to arrange a post-nuptial agreement to prepare for any possible break-up, the Ayrshire Post has noted. Written by Anna Norton
