Those attending marriage preparation courses may benefit from them in the long run, it has been stated.
Spokesperson for Relate Mel Merritt said that while there is no hard evidence that there are less divorces among those who go on such courses before their weddings, those who have been on them report that they are "useful".
"It's a good opportunity to talk about the big issues and revelations and talk about kids - how you bring them up, your life - what your future plans are," she stated.
Those preparing for marriage in this way may wish to see family law solicitors about taking out a prenuptial agreement in case things do go wrong.
Recent research by the Centre for Social Justice found that 75 per cent of cohabiting couples wish to get married.
Those who want to remain among the other 25 per cent could benefit from having a cohabitation agreement in place to protect their interests.
