22/05/2009 Pre-nups 'becoming more common' |
|
Pre-nuptial agreements are becoming more common and are not just the preserve of the rich and famous, it has been stated. The increased number of second and third marriages is a contributory factor in this, partly as it reminds people that not all marriages work and also because there may need to be provisions made for children from previous marriages, the Ayrshire Post noted. In its advice on the subject, the paper said that those who own businesses, savings or wish to deal with future debts may cover these through such an agreement. The paper concluded that a pre-nuptial should be regarded like an insurance policy - hopefully no claim will be needed but it is there just in case. People keen on taking out a pre-nuptial agreement can contact a solicitor about arranging one. An example of a pre-nuptial agreement in the news is the one signed by Katie Price and Peter Andre before their marriage, which could determine the shape of their divorce settlement.
