Women may benefit from making a prenuptial agreement before getting married, it has been argued. Legal expert Amandeep Gill told the Guardian that a combination of higher divorce rates, later marriage and more females in the workplace mean that women may feel the need to take more steps to protect their financial security. The paper noted the case of individuals such as 42-year-old businesswoman Sandy Williams, who is taking out such an agreement in the event of her marriage ever failing. She said: "It is 100 per cent practical and it has nothing to do with love and romance. Prenups create more certainty and it will also protect us from each other's debts." Those wishing to take out a prenup may wish to speak to a family lawyer on the subject. In June this year a survey by accountants Grant Thornton found that 59 per cent of lawyers were dealing with more prenuptials than any other kind of agreements, such as deals to do with cohabitation or civil partnerships.
