More and more rich men are seeking divorces after being made redundant, experts have claimed. Divorce specialists have told the Independent that the number of cases of men seeking a divorce after becoming a victim of the downturn has rocketed because a lack of a big salary could mean a lack of a big settlement. Leading divorce lawyer Vanessa Lloyd-Platt told the publication that January and February are typically busy times for the sector but she is seeing "unprecedented levels of divorce" during the recession. She added: "Many have been made redundant and want to rush through a divorce before they get a new job so they might not have to pay out as much. We are seeing an epidemic of that." If current trends are maintained, the Office for National Statistics has forecast that around 50 per cent of all marriages may end in divorce.
