20/05/2009 Trust fund 'set up by paper' |
|
The Sun newspaper has set up a trust fund to benefit a baby born to a 15-year-old girl, it has been claimed. According to the Guardian, the tabloid established the fund rather than paying money directly to interviewees when following the story in which a 13-year-old boy, Alfie Patten, was suspected of being the father, having apparently conceived the child when he was 12. DNA tests later showed he was not the actual parent, with another 15-year-old boy being identified. Although the establishment of the arrangement has not been confirmed, any trust fund that is set up could help financially with the bringing up of the child. Those keen to set up a trust fund for a child themselves may wish to consult a solicitor before proceeding. A recent study by Investment Life and Pensions Moneyfacts found that cash child trust funds have delivered better returns than stakeholder accounts - the government's preferred option - over the past four years.
