Celebrity chef becomes bankrupt
A celebrity chef has become one of the latest people to become bankrupt, the Insolvency Service has revealed.

John Burton Race declared himself bankrupt at Torquay county court in March, following on from his estranged wife Kim, who was herself recently forced to take the step.

Mrs Burton Race closed the couple's restaurant in Devon the New Angel in 2007 while he was in Australia filming a reality TV show, forcing him to sell it to a friend.

The establishment had debts of around £1 million at the time.

Creditors owed money by Mr Burton Race will have to apply to an insolvency practitioner.

Those facing insolvency themselves may wish to see a solicitor specialising in the practice.

Figures from the Insolvency Service released this month show that in the first quarter of 2009 there were 4,941 company liquidations in England and Wales on a seasonally adjusted basis, a 56 per cent increase on the same period in 2008.
