|
Breaches of health and safety laws that resulted in the death of one employee and the injury of three others have led to two companies being fined a total of £150,000.
All four men were employees of Bradway Construction and were involved in an incident where a suspended access cradle - provided by Apollo Cradles Ltd - failed and caused them to fall ten metres.
The Health and Safety Executive claimed that both the employer and the equipment supplier had failed to give their employees adequate training and instruction on how to use the equipment.
Bradway Construction pleaded guilty to breaching section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HSWA) and has been fined £25,000 and ordered to pay £18,000 in legal costs.
Meanwhile, Apollo was found guilt of failing in its duty to protect those not in the company's employment and were fined £115,000 plus £45,000 costs.
The news comes in the wake of a prosecution against Procter and Gamble Product Supply (UK) who pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety laws when brakes on a warehouse lift failed and injured three maintenance workers. |
