03/12/2009 Call for government help for landlords |
|
Law and tax changes concerning the residential landlord sector are needed to help it recover and grow, the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) has said.
Chairman of the body Alan Ward argued that the government is at present showing a poor understanding of the industry, as evidenced by the decision to treat holiday lets as unearned income despite the RLA arguing the opposite.
He stated that the RLA would like to see the government allowing one letting to be included in each self-invested personal pension.
Those keen to establish what their current tax and allowance situation will be as a prospective landlord may wish to speak to a property lawyer about the matter.
Mr Ward made his comments after the Association of Residential Letting Agents called for more government help for the sector.
Proposals included the introduction of capital allowances for landlords improving older properties and an extension of the Landlords Energy Saving Allowance to include central heating systems.
