10/08/2009 Housing law change call over green homes |

A recent change in the law should eventually make it impossible for landlords to rent out a home that has poor energy efficiency levels, it has been argued.
The Climate Change Act 2008 required that homes being made available for sale or rent should produce an energy performance certificate with a rating between A and G and an Energy Savings Trust spokesperson argued that this should be firmly enforced.
She remarked: "The Energy Saving Trust is advising the government that it should not be possible to sell or rent a home that is F or G rated from 2015."
Such a situation could mean that those investing in rental property will need to take more care over the energy efficiency of the assets they buy with 2015 in mind.
Buyers may wish to speak to a property lawyer about this and any other issues over purchases they are planning.
The new home energy efficiency rules are part of the means by which government targets aim to bring about a cut in carbon emissions of 26 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.
