A proposed limit to the number of homes in multiple occupancy has been criticised by the National Landlords Association.
Under the new proposal, councils will be able to limit the number of houses with more than six unrelated adults living in them in a particular area.
The Residential Landlords Association has hit out at the plan, with spokesperson Mark Butterworth arguing that this would reduce the availability of accommodation for students, young working people and asylum seekers, among others.
Arguing that those behind the plan have "not thought it through", he remarked: "More rules and regulations on top of the deluge of regulations that have landed on the rental sectors head is just another nail in the coffin."
Those with concerns about any aspect of residential property law and how it affects them may wish to see a property lawyer.
At present the government's proposals are undergoing a consultation exercise, which may lead to alterations to the plan.
