Landlords may do very well out of holding on to their residential property assets, real estate firm Savills has said.
Director of residential research at property services at the company Lucian Cook suggested that the market is "within five per cent of the bottom", with some investors likely to get a good price to sell up.
At the same time, he suggested, UK home ownership is likely to have "peaked", with people getting on the housing ladder later in life.
Commenting on this overall situation, Mr Cook remarked: "A landlord able to take a mid-term view would be well advised to hold their property."
Those keen to invest in rental property may wish to see a solicitor to deal with the legal aspects of buying, selling and tenancy laws.
More landlords were buying property than selling it during the first three months of this year, research by the Association of Residential Lettings Agents found.
The organisation revealed that this was the first time in two years that the balance had been in favour of buying.
