31/12/2009 London property investment demonstrates resilience |
|
The residential property sector in London has demonstrated greater resilience compared with other regions over the course of the past 12 months, Land Registry figures have revealed. Statistics from the body for November showed that the average price of a home in the capital increased 3.5 per cent from a year earlier, higher than the increase for any other part of England or Wales. Some other regions - such as the West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber - saw an annual fall and the overall national change in values is still in negative territory at 0.3 per cent. Those investing in London real estate may wish to consult a property lawyer to help build up their portfolio, with the possibility that the market in the metropolis could grow faster next year as the economy emerges from recession. Earlier this week, figures from Halifax showed that the ten most expensive streets in Britain for average house price are in London. Written by Anna Norton
