Selling a home without using an estate agent can help first-time buyers who are keen to purchase, it has been suggested.
Company director at direct selling firm the Little House Company Jane Marr said the money this can save may enable sellers to discount more, thus opening up the prospect of more people being able to afford to buy.
She said: "First-time buyers need to consider searching for homes being sold privately as the owners are saving on agent's fees."
Such a measure could increase the chances of a sale through the rise in affordability, although those wishing to go down this route may wish to see a solicitor to ensure all the legal aspects are covered.
Mrs Marr's comments came after a poll by PropertyLive.co.uk found that 65 per cent of non-homeowners do not believe they will ever make it onto the property ladder, whereas just five per cent expect to get a mortgage in the next six months.
