22/12/2009 Allotment appeal over wills |
|
Residents of an Oxfordshire town have been asked to help increase the amount of land for allotments through their wills.
People living in Henley can donate land they own for this purpose by bequeathing it to the town, councillor Ros Myer suggested, the Henley Standard reports.
She said: "They can specify that the land could be used for the benefit of the people of Henley, adding: "It's quite a nice idea. The allotment could be named after the person who gave it."
Such a move may be a useful measure in London, where space is in short supply.
Those wishing to use their wills to make a bequest of land to be used for a particular purpose may wish to speak to a lawyer skilled in will drafting.
Other uses for a will include making charity donations.
Earlier this month, Legacy Foresight's Legacy Monitor programme noted that the past two years has seen a nine per cent rise in such donations.
