11/01/2010 Charity in wills bid |
|
Childrens' charity Barnados has offered to write people's wills for them for free - provided they are aged over 55 and will make a donation to the organisation.
The move is aimed at raising more funds for the body, which stated: "Almost half of our voluntary income each year comes from gifts in wills."
Such a statement highlights the fact that some charities rely heavily on bequeathed money for much of their funds and those keen to make a donation to a good cause upon their death can only ensure this happens by stating this intent in the document.
Those aged less than 55 or who would like to make as donation to a charity other than Barnardos may wish to speak to a lawyer skilled in will drafting to ensure this provision is in place.
Last week, a survey by Standard Life found that 23 per cent of people intend to make a donation to a good cause in their will.
