20/07/2009 Warning over will arrangements |
|
People who have made wills should beware unscrupulous operators seeking to make them change the documents, it has been warned.
Margaret Rowe, a solicitor based in Shropshire, raised the issue after it was found that cold-callers have been targeting pensioners in the county, often heavily overcharging for alterations to wills, the Shropshire Star reports.
She found that many solicitors around the area had also heard of such practices going on, with people being lured into parting with their money by scare stories.
One individual was tricked into paying £1,500 for advice that should have cost £80.
Those living in London and planning to make alterations to their wills or to check that all the details are correct may wish to see Ealing solicitors or Westminster solicitors who specialise in will drafting.
Co-operative spokesman Dave Smith said last week that because family life is "far more complex these days," people should get good advice when writing a will.
