Will writing before move overseas 'essential'
Britons thinking of emigrating should make sure they have a will in place before they do, it has been advised.

Foreign property portal Shelter Offshore said that will writing is one of the most important things anyone moving overseas should do, stating that there is a "very real and pressing requirement to write a will."

Those doing this may avoid complications by having arrangements in place that are legally binding both for the UK and the country they are moving to, in order to avoid problems in the future.

People keen to draft a will may wish to consult a solicitor before doing so, whether or not they are moving abroad.

One of the problems that can be solved by having a will is that of providing documentary evidence of where the money gained by inheritors comes from.

Responding to a reader query in the Daily Mail this month, Heather Taylor from accountancy firm Grant Thornton said this information should help a man facing a tax enquiry from HM Customs and Revenue.

The body had suggested the funds he had inherited and then invested might be business earnings.
