Nicholas was admitted as a solicitor in 1979. He has worked in the City and overseas including Paris, Riyadh and the Benelux. Most of his career has been in private practice, but he has also worked as an in-house lawyer for a mining company and a bank. He became a partner at William Sturges & Co in 1999. He has experience in the following areas, namely banking, company, commercial and employment law. His work has included advising, assisting with and drafting documentation for:

- commercial agency, distribution and franchise agreements
- conditions of sale and conditions of purchase and consumer terms of sale
