Richard was admitted as a solicitor in 1982. Richard joined William Sturges & Co from Keene Marsland in 1995 and became a partner in 1997. 

Richard has experience of virtually all types of commercial litigation and specialises in contractual disputes, professional negligence, personal injury and contentious probate claims.  He mainly acts for private individuals and prides himself on client contact and his ability to secure the outcome his clients wish in the most effective way.

His cases with William Sturges & Co have included the following:

  • Property litigation - a case involving a contract for the sale of land for development where the contract was signed for the purchaser by a company that had not yet been formed
  • Professional negligence - claims against solicitors, accountants, doctors and dentists
  • Claims arising from Wills and estates, including inheritance claims, claims of lack of testamentary capacity and of undue influence
  • Personal injury - including road traffic accidents and accidents at work
  • Planning cases - including advising clients in relation to appearances before planning committees and public enquiries and advising clients in relation to planning appeals
  • Education - including exclusion and special educational needs cases
  • Sports law - Richard has successfully represented professional golfers and rugby players
  • Recovery of money, enforcement of judgments etc - including obtaining freezing orders, insolvency proceedings, etc
  • Alternative dispute resolution - Richard has represented clients at arbitrations, mediations, conciliations and most other forms of alternative dispute resolution
