Residential Property Team

We have a growing Residential Property Team at William Sturges.

Today we speak to Rhyanna, a Conveyancing Assistant in the team.

1- How long have you been at William Sturges and how did you arrive here?

I’ve been at William Sturges for just over four years now. I undertook work experience with the firm back in March 2019 and was offered a position within Residential Conveyancing a few months later.

2- What were your feelings on day one?

Having met most of my colleagues whilst doing work experience, I recall feeling optimistic and excited to go back and start my career. It was not as daunting as you may think, everyone was friendly and helpful.

3- How were you helped to settle in?

There’s a real sense of a family environment at William Sturges. This runs through the firm from the Senior partners to the front desk. and everyone was so kind to me and offered their help. Also, with the office being open plan everybody knows each other well. There is no closed-door policy and no glass ceiling here.

4- You have now been at WS for 4/5 years- what has your role encompassed?

As well as providing professional support, I am now taking on my own clients and matters. This has allowed me to develop quite quickly and enabled me to challenge myself so much more now. Team members are also on hand to provide support if needed and we all work together well.

5- What is your favourite aspect of the work?

Building client relationships and seeing a transaction through to completion – it’s really rewarding! Obviously in a bustling firm the work can be full on, but the reward of a job well done makes it all worthwhile.

6- What has given you the most challenges?

I’m not sure! I am fortunate to be in a supportive environment where a problem shared is a problem halved. This enables us to remain calm, cool and collected and work logically through what can be a complex process.

7- Where would you like to develop to?

A senior role – I see myself becoming a manager/partner one day. I am also pleased that many people have been able to advance in that manner – it’s inspiring and I know that this goal of mine is achievable.

8- How important has internal support been in your development?

Very important as a large portion of our days is spent working, whether in office and remotely. It’s important to surround yourself with people that will encourage and support you.

9- If you could give yourself any advice on your first day with the benefit of your experience what would it be?

I had to give advice to college students on this topic a few years ago and my advice remains the same:

“Never give up and be consistent”.
Making a good first impression is also very important – be yourself and don’t be afraid to step out of your ‘comfort zone’. Lastly, ask questions as it shows you’re willing to learn!” I believe that the only wrong question is the one you don’t ask. Above all enjoy the work and work together to make the environment as positive as possible.
